“This team represents the very best of what our region has to offer. We’ve brought together artists who understand the responsibility of telling this story, while also creating opportunities for our community and the next generation of performers.” - Martin Nguyen - Producer
Frozen represents a significant moment for CentreStage.
This production has been intentionally developed as a large-scale, high-impact musical theatre experience, combining technical ambition with deeply grounded storytelling. It is a show that demands both spectacle and emotional truth, and the creative team assembled reflects that balance.
At its core, this production will explore themes of:
Identity and self-acceptance
Connection and belonging
Leadership, courage and emotional resilience
As outlined in the creative vision:
“This production centres on themes of identity, belonging, and the power of human connection… where magic is grounded in truth.” - David Greenwood OAM
The intention is not simply to present a well-known story, but to reframe it through authentic, emotionally driven performance and strong ensemble storytelling.
Introducing the Core Creative Team
CentreStage has brought together an outstanding team of artists and leaders to deliver this vision:
Producer: Martin Nguyen
Director: Michele Marcu
Assistant Director: Jesse Simpson
Choreographer: Chloe Quinney
Musical Director: Phil Kearney
Assistant Musical Director: Britteny Ling
Vocal Director: Liz Kearney
Production Manager: David Greenwood OAM
This team has been carefully selected not only for their experience, but for their shared values, collaborative approach, and commitment to developing performers within a professional-standard environment.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team we’ve assembled. There’s a real sense of trust, respect and shared purpose across this group, and that’s what will ultimately shape the experience for our cast, crew and audiences.” - Martin Nguyen (Producer)
Importantly, this is also a deliberate investment in regional creative excellence, showcasing the depth of talent within Geelong and surrounding communities.
A Clear Creative Direction
Director Michele Marcu leads the production with a strong and unified vision:
“The intention is to create a version of Frozen that is not only entertaining and visually engaging, but also authentic in its storytelling and emotionally resonant.”
Her approach centres on:
Clarity of narrative
Honest, character-driven performance
A connected and disciplined ensemble
This ensures that every moment on stage serves the story, not just the spectacle.
Elevating the Musical Experience
Under Musical Director Phil Kearney, the production will prioritise a full, rich orchestral sound, supporting the scale and emotional depth of the score.
“A larger orchestra allows the musical narrative to breathe, supporting both the performers on stage and the storytelling as a whole.”
This commitment to musical integrity reflects a broader goal: to deliver a production that aligns with the expectations of contemporary musical theatre while remaining accessible to a regional audience.
Community, Access and Opportunity
Beyond the stage, Frozen has been designed as a whole-of-community experience.
CentreStage’s approach includes:
Inclusive and thoughtful casting
A safe and supportive rehearsal environment
Clear pathways for young performers and emerging creatives
Accessible performance options for audiences with diverse needs
This includes the integration of Relaxed and Accessible Performances, ensuring more members of the community can experience live theatre in a way that suits them.
“The goal is not to change the story, but to open the experience so that everyone has the opportunity to be part of it.”
From the Producer
Producer Martin Nguyen has set a clear tone for the production:
